Lake Don Pedro, CA

Warm
spring like temperatures leading up to the Nor-Cal Bass Open Team at Don
Pedro gave way to stormy rainy weather last
Sunday. Sixty anglers showed up to fish the tournament with the
anticipation of catching shallow fish cruising the bedding areas of the
lake. Although many of the teams where keying on bed fish, the annual
migration was far from being the dominate pattern.
The
huge Pedro lunkers that prowl the lake still haven’t made their
appearance in large numbers, but they aren’t far off as the majority
of fish were caught in less then 10 feet. The anglers brought 138 bass
to the scales weighing 260 lbs with the largest one of the tournament
coming in at 6.70 lbs.
Hughson’s
David Homen and Scott Summers made it back to back by repeating as open
team champions. The team fished main lake areas with Keeper Custom Worms
in 5 to 25 feet of water. They also caught some fish off of beds to
round out their limit. The events big fish that tipped the scales at
6.70 lbs capped off the team’s 15.44 lb 6 fish limit. Homen and
Summers took home $1,655 for their great finish.
Second
place went to Clovis anglers Pete Hennecke and Jason Bradshaw with their
6 fish limit that weighed 14.30 lbs. The team fished steep banks in the
main lake with 4 inch Senko’s. All their fish came in 5 to 10 feet of
water. The pair took home $860.
Troy
and Todd Wells, of Ceres, finished 3rd with their 6 fish
limit that weighed 13.80 lbs. The team caught their first two fish
ripping a Pointer Minnow and the rest of their limit was caught on hand
tied jigs tipped with Super Pork and throwing Keeper 1001 worms. The
team keyed on main lake rocky points and all their fish came in water up
to 20 feet deep. The pair thanked their sponsors, Autolife Sporting
Goods, Stren and Super Pork as they took home $625 for their finish.
Rounding
out the top five in 4th place was Turlock’s Tim Paes and
Ron Wilson, of Modesto with their 6 fish limit that weighed 13.60 lbs.
The pair took home $350. Fifth place went to Bakersfield anglers Ted
Preston and Kern Crawley with a 12.62 lb 6 fish limit that netted the
pair $250.
