Nor-Cal Bass kicked off their
2006 season in typical fashion. Torrential rain, wind and hail! Seems like we time
our kick-off event under these types of
conditions every year. However the weather didn't stop the ninety-two anglers
from showing up to fish the event.
The weather may have not been
ideal, but the fishing was awesome with forty-one of the forty-seven boats
bringing in 5-fish limits. The fish were
healthy and stocky with the average weight tipping the scales at 2.24-pounds.
The anglers brought in 220 bass that weighed 492-pounds.
The majority of competitors
reported catching fish with dropshotting, dartheads and jigs. A few of the
anglers used crankbaits and ripbaits with a couple reporting they caught fish on
topwater.
Merced pro Jim Moulton and
his partner John Braziel, of Waterford. The pair brought in a 5-fish limit
that tipped the scales at 14.38-pounds.
Moulton also took Big Fish in the Pro Division
with his 4.96-pound lunker. Moulton took home
$2,398 while Braziel took home $1,105 for a team total of $3,503.
Second place went to Hilmar
Pro George Azevedo and his partner Robert Mericle, of
Escalon. Azevedo and Mericle brought in a
13.56-pound 5-fish limit. Azevedo earned $1,726 while Mericle took home $610 for
a team total of $2,336.
Oakdale
Pro Randy Pierson and partner Bill Clayton, of Modesto, finished 3rd with a
5-fish limit that tipped the scales at 13.54-pounds. Pierson took home $1,439
and Clayton earned $660 for a team total of $2,099.
Big Fish in the Am Division
went to San Carlos angler Milton Reynolds. Reynolds brought in a 4.46-pound
lunker that earned him $260.
Our next
Pro-Am event takes place at New Melones. Check-in will take place at
Glory Hole Sports. Mandatory check-in time is from 4:30 to
5:30 am on the
morning of the event. Anglers late for morning check-in will be assessed a 2
pound penalty and after 15 minutes will be disqualified.
