Nor-Cal's second event of the
season took place at New Melones and the weather was far more palatable then
their first tourney at
McClure. The 88 anglers
enjoyed the reprieve from the elements.
The fishing was awesome as
forty-three of the forty-four boats brought in five-fish limits. The anglers
brought in 218 bass that tipped the scales at 472-pounds. The average weight per
fish was 2.16-pounds.
Although the weather was
showing signs of wanting to kick into its spring mode, the fish were still
relatively deep with most anglers reporting their catch came from water as deep
as 45 feet. But their were a few fish cruising in the shallower depths. Anglers
reported catching fish on everything from ripbaits to dropshotting.
Copperopolis pro Joe Bruce
and his partner Robert Becker, of Oakdale, dominated the field with an awesome
22.28-pound five-fish limit. The teams weight was anchored by Bruce's
11.60-pound monster that fell victim to a swimbait. Bruce took home $2,315 while
Becker earned $1,060 for a team total of $3,375.
Second place went to Oakdale
pro Shawn Conde and partner Jeff Johnson, of Angels Camp. Conde and Johnson
brought in a five-fish limit that tipped the scales at 14.62-pounds. Conde took
home $1,845 while Johnson earned $769 for a team total of $2,614.
Riverbank pro Jeff Frey and
partner Corey Lewis, of Merced, finished 3rd with an 14.50-pound five-fish
limit. Frey took home $1,215 while Lewis earned $706 for a team total of $1,921.
Big Fish in the Am Division
went to Atwater angler Terry Kleingartner. Kleingartner brought in a 4.32-pound
lunker that helped seal up a 6th place finish and earn the competitor $375.
The Pro Division Angler of
the Year race saw Copperopolis pro Joe Bruce move into 1st place with 215
points. Bruce is followed closely by Denair pro Robin Lowe with 212 points. John
Braziel, of Waterford, held onto his 1st place status in the Am Division with
another solid finish. His 214 points is followed closely by Robert Mericle, of
Escalon, with 208 points. Division winners earn free entry into 2007 events in
their respective divisions.
Our next
Pro-Am event takes place at Don Pedro. Check-in will take place at
Flemming Meadows. Mandatory
check-in time is from 4:00 to
5:00 am on the
morning of the event. Anglers late for morning check-in will be assessed a 2
pound penalty and after 15 minutes will be disqualified.
