Fish over two
pounds have become a rare commodity at Lake McClure and Nor-Cal's kick-off event
would prove to be no different. Catching fish wasn't a problem but finding any
size was impossible. Anglers caught the majority of their fish on jigs and
dropshotting worms.
First place went
to Riverbank pro Jeff Frey and his partner Don Delano of Modesto. The pair
brought in a five fish limit that tipped the scales at 7.66 pounds. Frey took
big fish in the pro division with his 1.90-pound bass. Frey took home $1,500
while Delano earned $768.
Merced pro Jim
Moulton and partner Terry Kleingartner of Atwater finished tied for 2nd place.
Moulton and Kleingartner weighed in a five-fish limit that tipped the scales at
7.56-pounds. Moulton earned $645 while Kleingartner took home $343.
Turlock pro Tim
Paes and partner Angelo Alorro of San Mateo also finished with a 7.56-pound
five-fish limit that earned the pair their 2nd place tie. Paes took home $645
while Alorro earned $343.
Lodi's Ben Willis
took big fish honors in the Am Division, which was also big fish for the event.
Willis took home $200 for his 2-pound McClure bass.
